mosey handmade is now a duo! jes from mosey will be joined by her new partner in craft, stephanie, from songs of flight. long lost friends, the two reunited last spring and have been scheming ever since. they went from cutting each others hair in high school to turning out one of a kind creations one by one! mosey handmade has a great fondness of vintage fabrics from childhood, corduroys, calicos and tiny prints, hand dyed felt. mosey loves working with recycled materials, dyeing them, cutting them up and fashioning them into new lovelies. we aim to keep everything earth-friendly by upcycling and gleaning all the materials we can, as well as using eco friendly packaging and natural dyes.

our easter...

a blanket of love...

our waldorf school's handwork group finished the noro silk garden blanket that we've been working on collaboratively! 30 squares, lovingly knit and pieced together, one square at a time, to represent the 30 amazing years that our school has been in existence. what a joy and pleasure it was to meet with, work with and knit with a group of like-minded waldorf mamas to create this beautiful blanket of love for our school! i am honored to have been able to participate in this project, as well as being the one to photograph the finished product...

it will be auctioned off at our school's big fundraising event in april and we hope that it fetches a nice price - although, truly...it's quite priceless in so very many ways. :)

wip wednesday {thursday}...

i'm (obviously) still having a bit of a difficult time finding my weekly rhythm again, so my work-in-progress projects this week (brought to you one day late) are going to be short and sweet - they are simply more progress on two previous projects. first up is a continuation my second attempt at a rainbow felted yoga mat bag ...

and here is another scrappy gnome hat that i'm working on for our school's fundraising auction event (i've got at least three more of these that i want to make for this project!)...

weekend knitting...

we enjoyed a lovely and relaxing spring break this last week - full of family and friends, beautiful weather and outside time and, of course...lots of knitting! i did, in fact, finish the matching dream in color baby bloom that i've been working on for maya's waldorf doll - and isn't it sweet? maya was quite thrilled to have a matching rainbow tunic for her little one. this darling doll version was included as a bonus in the purchase of my most recent favorite knitting pattern, georgie hallam's bloom. as with the other bloom's i have knit, i altered the pattern by omitting the lace work from the main body of the tunic (detailed ravelry notes here)...

also, last year, i found myself lacking in knitted items to sell at our waldorf school's annual winter faire...so this week i made a resolution - to knit at least one item each week during the year for this particular event. this way, i should have an abundance of items for this year's faire! and so to begin, i made this first little felted purse (with many more to follow) using my own felted iphone purse pattern...

lastly, maya knitted herself a sweet little rainbow bracelet/cuff - of her own design and doing, with no help from mama! she's quite the little knitter, isn't she?

birthday handknits :: felted flute bag

this year, in maya's first grade at our waldorf school, just before the winter break...the children were all given their very first choroi pentatonic flutes. since that time, they have been learning simple songs together and it is quite magical and such a joy to hear them play! now the flutes that they have at school remain there in their desks each day and are not brought home, as they belong to the school and, as tradition has it (at our school anyway), they will be passed down to the next first grade class as has been done for many years before them - a sort of rite of passage, if you will. for maya's upcoming 7th birthday, wesley and i wanted to gift her with the same choroi flute - one that will be hers alone to use and practice with here at home. a flute that she will have, always, to remind her of this beautiful year in first grade. and so, naturally, a handknitted and felted drawstring flute bag was in order to hold such a treasure...

i improvised the pattern (using my iphone purse pattern as a very basic guide), and with some calculating and a bit of luck...i think it came out just about right! i used malabrigo worsted in the floral colorway for this bag (with a contrasting color for the drawstring), and i think it quite nicely compliments the other birthday felted drawstring bag i also made for her (to hold her soon-to-be-gifted new beeswax crayons). now i've just got to get busy finishing her felted yoga mat bag and her doll's bloom dress, and all of her handmade birthday gifts will be complete!
