weekend knitting...

this weekend i finished the two sets of men's fingerless mitts i've been working on. i used the same pattern that i used last winter for wesley's fire department mitts -  a very simple, straight-forward and quick knit! this first pair was made using earthy/neutral malabrigo worsted colors (the stripes took a bit more time due to weaving in the ends at the yarn changes)...

and the second pair i made in a variegated manos del uruguay maxima colorway called currant (loving this masculine color combination!)...

also this weekend, maya finished up her rainbow purse. this was her first project changing yarn colors and she's quite proud of her work on this lovely little purse (as is her mama)!

color my world...

we really are all about color around here. bright colors make up a big part of our home and always bring a smile to my face. they make me feel warm and cozy and content. and with spring right around the corner, i'm noticing happy colors everywhere...

wip wednesday :: a spring scarf

as the weather begins to warm up a bit here in central texas, there is a definite feeling that spring is in the air. now, mind you, over these last few cold winter months i've become accustomed to daily wearing one of the many lacy baktus scarves i've knit for myself. so naturally, with the change of the season inevitably coming, i'm now feeling the need for a lighter, spring-weight version of the same. so the search for the perfect yarn was on. and found the perfect yarn, i did! in this lovely alyeska hand-dyed sock yarn from pagewood farm - a soft and squishy merino, with just a touch of cashmere. heavenly! and in my favorite waldorf, peachy-pink colorway...

i'm also close to finishing up the malabrigo mitts that i'm knitting to match the balaclava i just completed...

for my yarn update, here are a couple of new colorful additions (including the sock yarn i'm using for my new scarf above):

pagewood farm alyeska sock yarn, in rainbow sherbert...

ella rae lace merino, in color 102 (two photos of the same skein, because each side is so different and beautiful!)...

weekend knitting...

this weekend i finished the malabrigo balaclava i've been working on. i rather like the simple, knightly-looking helmet styling. it can be worn over or under the chin. perfect for cold weather bike rides. matching mitts to come shortly!

i also completed two more noro silk garden squares (both in seed stitch) for our school's 30 years blanket. all squares have now been accounted for and completed by our knitting group, so we will be assembling the blanket soon!
