as we approach this busy season of the year with advent and other celebrations, my beloved readers...it is time, once again, for my annual ostheimer knights and horses giveaway. if you are new to my blog, you can read about how it all began a couple of years ago here in my very first ostheimer giveaway blog post. then i decided to repeat the same giveaway again last year. so, naturally, it is now an annual waldorfmama tradition!

wip wednesday :: baby bloom

this week i've been working on another bloom/rainbow dress hybrid - this time, in baby size (commissioned as a christmas gift for a family member). mermaid colors were requested, so once again...i'm using punta's merisoft merino in this lovely blue/green colorway (the same yarn i used for this gnome hat earlier in the year)...

i've also already cast on a sweet little bonnet to match! and, not so coincidentally, my yarn update this week is another (better) photo of this very yarn:

the juniper treehouse is located near the kindergarten and lower grades playground on our austin waldorf school campus, which is situated on 19 wooded acres here in the hill country. a fun and lovely place to visit if you are ever in this part of texas. the store has a vast selection of waldorf-inspired items, such as:

dress up items and play silks...

waldorf dolls...

wooden ostheimer figures...

and many waldorf school and home art supplies...

beautiful postcards...

and waldorf artwork...

as you make your way upstairs to the second level, you will find yourself bathed in a rainbow of color as you enter a haven of yarn, knitting supplies and books:

an amazing and wide variety of malabrigo yarn...

'bitty balls' of yarn especially for the children...

an array of noro yarn, noro samples and knitting supplies...

 and, of course, a vast selection of waldorf books...

a knitting retreat...

i recently had the pleasure of attending the most amazing knitting retreat - yes, a knitting retreat! a weekend totally and completely devoted to knitting and enjoying the company of 20 other lovely knitting mamas (one of our more ambitious mamas organized the whole event). the setting was a magnificent and extraordinary location, moriah, situated on three secluded acres near lake travis here in central texas and consisted of three historic log cabins that have been meticulously restored. two of the cabins were for our lodging (and, i must say, the bed i slept in had THE most comfortable mattress i do believe i've ever slept on)...

the third building was a grand hall where we all met together to knit (whether that was inside, on the porch or around the adjacent fire pit) as well as enjoy our exquisitely prepared meals (one of our knitting mamas is a gourmet chef!)...

we had show-n-tell of any finished knits we brought with us and we all ooh'd and ahh'd over each other's work. we shared patterns. and yarn. and expertise. and just about everything that has anything to do with knitting.

we even had a massage therapist available to us on one day for both full body and chair massages! to say the experience was absolutely magical would truly be an understatement. as you can imagine, we're already planning another retreat in the spring!
