today marks the beginning of spring. the vernal equinox, when day and night are equal and balanced. and we look toward the growing light. although we celebrated the first promise of spring at candlemas, there were still nights of frost and darkness ahead. now spring is manifest. as dawn is the time of new light, so is the spring equinox the time of new life.

my dear friend, maria ribbeck, is an amazing waldorf doll maker from germany. having studied in waldorf education herself, she inherently understands the significance and importance of doll play in the life of a child. i discovered her lovely dolls not long ago in her dawanda shop and have been enchanted by them ever since. we now have three of her beautiful dolls who have joined our doll family...
this is maya's new 16" doll that she received for her birthday, whom we have named mona

and, of course, mama had to have one of her very own, too! :)
as we add to our ever-growing family of dolls, we welcome each with much joy and excitement. preparing special clothing, undergarments, hats, blankets and bedding with great love and care. there will be many days ahead spent snuggling, comforting, nursing, wardrobe changing, sling carrying and food preparing. indeed...honoring the simple innocence of imitation and the beauty that is childhood.

just when it felt as though spring was certainly on her way here in texas...we have a little cold snap. out come the coats and hats again (that are never really too far away this time of year)...
the ebb and flow of the seasons. the welcoming of the new. and the lingering of the old. it is the dance. and there is a rhythm in this for us, as well. like the ocean tides. and like our children, who reach out to experience new things, separate from us...only to come back in to the security and comfort of our arms, to prepare for the next excursion.
