kitchen color...

things have been feeling very spring-like around here and i'm finding myself noticing the spring colors in my home a bit more - particularly in my kitchen - as we celebrate the amazing color bursting forth outdoors. an inward expression and experience of the outward rebirth that is spring. every year during this glorious season (my very favorite time of year, if you couldn't tell), i feel a sense of rebirth in myself and celebrate the coming of the temperate weather and beautiful color all around me. outside, naturally - as our flowers bloom and blue skies beckon us out of doors. and inside, as well, as we open the windows to let the cool breezes in and get busy with some organizing and spring cleaning...

wip wednesday :: car knitting

my one and only work-in-progress this week is actually a continuation of last week's project - the rainbow lacy baktus that i'm making for our very special kindergarten teacher this year. this has lovingly been designated my commuter project, as i keep it in the car and have been knitting on it when i'm waiting at the kindergarten to pick up maya or even during red lights and traffic jams. believe it or not, i had knit all the way up to the blue color but then was compelled (being the perfectionist that i am) to rip it back when i discovered i had accidentally knit up the green/yellow skein in reverse order - oh my. it's coming along nicely again now and it was certainly worth the extra effort to get it right...

and, of course, here is the usual weekly yarn stash update (to add to my ravelry notebook)!

welcoming spring...

despite the fact that it snowed on the first day of spring here in texas (an unprecedented second time this winter no less), we've been enjoying many days outside exploring nature and the passing of winter. looking closely at the changing season around us and gathering a bit more of mother nature's treasures...

a rainy march...

april showers? how about march showers? we're having a very rainy march here in central texas. now don't get me wrong, there is a certain beauty in the waterlogged grass and gray skies. they seem to bring a sense of comfort and nourishment to the earth. but oh, i am looking forward to some sunshine and blue skies.

in the meantime, let me assure you, we are glimpsing some delightful promises of spring through the drizzle!

new wheels...

we have a little 'first' tricycle (which we've had for years, since the bigger kids were little) that maya has been riding for a long time now. it's a very well made little trike (made in sweden) and it has lasted beautifully through all of the children (and even their cousins, as well). maya has always adored this little yellow and red tricycle and ridden it practically every day. but now that she is 5 (and quite tall for her age), she was beginning to outgrow it...

so now that spring is here, maya's 'tita' (her grandmother) just bought this beautiful and big new tricycle for her! another extremely well made tricycle (this one from winther, in denmark) for 4-8 year olds. this is the viking 'big trike' and can be coupled with any of their little trailer attachments for even more play value (what fun!).

and as you can imagine...she is in heaven!
