gnome hats for a cause...

i did it. i finished the last two gnome hats i had promised to knit and donate to our waldorf school's 30 year celebration and fundraising event...just in time (the big event is this saturday - as in, day after tomorrow)! whew.

i decided to make these three hats in couplets of adjacent colors on the rainbow spectrum (red-orange, yellow-green and blue-purple), and i'm quite pleased with the grouping. i'm secretly hoping all three of these go to one family, as i'd adore seeing three sweet little heads side by side in these hats!

now i'm sure to see even more little gnomes out roaming around on our school's playgrounds! one can never have too gnomes, yes?

weekend knitting...

i finished two more gnome hats this weekend, despite having a slight case of the flu. honestly, when it comes to knitting...not much can stop me. (but oh my goodness, i hope you're not tiring of all of these gnomey hats?) first up is the gnome hat i finished for my blogiversary giveaway winner, rebecca - a scrappy rainbow hat for her little one (she requested that i surprise her with the colorway). i decided to make this rainbow hat in true scrappy style (a bit differently than my previous rainbow incarnations), by just using bits of rainbow colors in various and sundry solid and variegated yarns. i quite like the way it turned out (and, as you may have guessed, maya is requesting one of her own)...

i also completed another scrappy gnome hat for one of maya's classmates. light and dark blues were requested for this one...

weekend knitting...

oh yes, because knitting truly is my passion (waldorf mama that i am)...my new habit of making a weekend knitting post on mondays is just the thing i've been looking for to get my week off to a great start. and so, in my continuing effort to fill our waldorf school's playgrounds with as many gnome-hatted heads as possible - i bring you not 1, not 2, not 3...but 4 completed scrappy gnome hats today! the first two below are the boy/girl twin hats i've been working on...

these next two are the first two hats i've completed in a set of three gnome hats for three sisters that i'm making for a waldorf family at our school. each of the sisters chose similar versions to hats i've made previously - one rainbow, one like grace's (both shown below) and one in cool colors (still on the needles)...

wip wednesday :: handspun hats

we're still on the road to health here (maya had another fever last night), so i don't have any new wip's today. only one finished project to share - two hats that i made for my friend, melissa (who waited ever so patiently for me to get these to her), out of her own beautiful handspun yarn!

to go with the beautifulful handknitted baby kicking bag she made for her new baby's arrival - lovely, isn't it?

melissa actually only wanted one hat, but my gauge was off on the first one i knit and it ended up being a bit large. however, she had sent enough yarn that i was easily able to knit up a smaller one, as well. now the little one will have a hat for next winter, too. :)

new baby hat photos...

we had a bit of fever and illness over the weekend so i'm getting a later start to my day today, but i am so excited to share some lovely new photos of two of my silk pilot caps by the talented cari vaughn, of cari vaughn photography. she purchased these two hats from my etsy shop, one in rosy pink and one is natural creme, and graciously sent me these beautiful pictures of them...

oh my, aren't they precious? what lovely photography! thank you, cari!

there is something very special that happens to me when i see a newborn adorned in one of my hats. it brings me a warm feeling of comfort to hope that i am, in some small way, spreading the word about keeping babies heads covered in natural fiber hats.

oh how i love it when customers share their photos with me. here are some beautiful photos of five week old twins taken by a customer of mine from budapest, hungary, who purchased two silk hats from my etsy shop (and waited patiently while it took me a long time to get them to her!)...

**note to all of my etsy hat shop customers:  i'm close to being caught up on all of my previous custom orders, so if you are still waiting on a hat from me...you should be receiving it sometime during these first weeks of june! thanks to everyone for your continued patience and understanding as i continue to fulfill custom orders. i plan to reopen the shop and relist all of my available hats sometime in the next couple of weeks!
