our beloved everett, wesley's brother, lost his battle with cancer and we will miss him so very much. we love you, everett!

slouchy hats...

after knitting a couple of beanie-style hats for wesley, he recently requested a slouchy-style hat. and so, being the happy little knitting wife that i truly love to be...i set about making him one immediately. my first attempt, a monochromatic green version, ended up fitting maya a bit better...

but the second attempt, a two-color simple slouchy hat, was a perfect fit! he chose the colors and i think they suit him perfectly, as well...

just in time, too, for the very cold wintery weather that has just hit us here in texas! (now i need to knit him a scarf to match, don't you think?)

our state fair...

each october, the annual state fair of texas is held in our hometown of dallas at historic fair park. after a day of rest and recovery for maya from her brief illness (since this was a long weekend), we headed south on the train for our annual visit to this remarkable fair...

highlights for this year was the butterfly exhibit, as well as the annual bird show and dog show favorites. maya also had a young giraffe and camel eat out of her hand during our visit to the children's zoo. and like every year, we marveled at the beauty of the art and buildings surrounding us. and, of course, there were the traditional corny dogs to eat!
