handknits :: thursday

today i am sharing some various and sundry handknits, a few of which have been completed for a while (i just needed to get photos). first up is another selection of cotton waffle knit washcloths (i had knit some of these previously and loved them so much in this beautiful patagonia nature cotton that i just had to make some more). these make super quick and easy gifts...

maya has also been working diligently to finish the rainbow christmas garland that she began working on earlier this year. she has worked many hours with her little knitting mushroom on this lovely and newly cherished garland (to go along with the other two she made last year)!

for wesley's birthday just a few weeks ago i knit him another boyfriend hat - this one in malabrigo merino worsted. i really love this variegated minty green colorway on him...

and last but not least, here is the most recent lacy baktus scarf that i've made (modeled by maya below). knit in my usual favorite baktus yarn, lorna's laces lion and lamb - this one in the bittersweet colorway...

gnome hats abound around here. many have been made. many more are still to be made. and with my new scrappy style, the color combinations and possibilities are endless. here are a few of the more recent ones i've completed...

oh how we love knitting, wearing and giving these gnome hats (although by the looks of things, some of us are not especially fond of modeling them). ;-)

happy winter solstice everyone!

for today's winter solstice handknit, i'd like to share yet another bloom/rainbow dress hybrid that i just completed for a friend. this one in a larger size and in my scrappy style, using all malabrigo merino worsted yarn. i really love the color combination...

i also went with a different lace insert at the bottom on this dress. i think my attempt at using elizabeth zimmerman's gull lace pattern (from her february baby sweater) works nicely here, don't you?

handknits :: monday

this week (as i continue to knit fast and furiously on a few last minute items!) i thought i'd share a few of the handknits i've made over the past few weeks leading up to this holiday season. first up is the bloom/rainbow hybrid dress and feather and fan bonnet i recently finished for a family member...

this is the combination of two of georgie hallam's patterns that i improvised before, and it's one that i find myself coming back to over and over again. this latest rendition was knit for an almost one year old little girl using punta merisoft aran (mermaid colors were requested) and smaller-than-called-for needles to adjust the size...

i chose this sweet little feather and fan bonnet to accompany the dress and am thrilled with the way it turned out - i will definitely be knitting this precious bonnet again! i chose a matching satin ribbon for the tie...

wip wednesday :: another scrappy bloom

my work-in-progress this week is another scrappy bloom tunic - this one for a friend to give as a gift to a little girl in her family. once again, i'm using malabrigo merino worsted in a selection of various colorways (shown below). i truly love the uniqueness of each and every one of these that i knit...

i also just completed another gnome hat - this one in all malabrigo neutrals for a sweet little baby boy in our family (colors specifically requested by his mama)!

and for my yarn update, i have one more skein of malabrigo merino worsted that i just purchased to include in the above bloom tunic:

weeks of advent...

one of our favorite seasonal waldorf traditions has always been celebrating the weeks of advent. we're entering week three now, so i wanted to share a few images from our first two weeks:

the first light of advent is the light of stones

light that lives in crystals, seashells and bones...

the second light of advent is the light of plants

plants that reach up to the sun and in the breezes dance...

we've also been lighting the candle that maya made (at our school's recent winter fair) each evening at mealtime, saying our evening advent verse...

winter is dark

yet each tiny spark

brightens the way,

to christmas day.

shine little light

and show us the way,

to the bright, bright light

of christmas day.

we also very much enjoyed our annual winter fair this year...making candles, ornaments and pinecone gnomes!
