waldorf mama

oh, that color...

if you've ever seen my yarn stash on ravelry, you're surely recognize these colors. indeed, most of my yarn is some variation or another of these peachy/pink/orange colors. they are my colors. the colors of a waldorf kindergarten. i am drawn to them over and over again. and no matter how many skeins of yarn i have in these colors, i am always adding more! so here are the latest additions - from lovely fiesta yarns, three of my favorite colorways in their wonderful squishy boomerang merino...

now, all i have to do is decide what i'm going to make out of each. that's almost as much fun as picking out the yarn.  :)

wip wednesday :: malabrigo rainbows

i've got three malabrigo rainbow projects to share today, if you can believe that (and i'm sure you can). by the way, all of these projects are from the same set of rainbow malabrigo skeins. nothing like using up every last bit of yarn from sets like this.

first up is maya's completed rainbow poncho, which turned out just perfect. an unbelievably simple pattern (straight stockinette with garter stitch border) and i couldn't be happier with the results. link to pattern and details on my ravelry page here. maya is looking forward to wearing this poncho in the cooler months ahead.

next is the first of many hoodies, a rainbow hoodie for maya (to match her poncho), using a pattern by lyalya. before she made the pattern available for sale, i had custom ordered several of these from her etsy shop and we absolutely adore them. i love the gnome-like shape and this is the easiest hat to get on and stay on. perfect for keeping little ears and necks warm. i've got several in my ravelry queue for christmas presents so you'll definitely be seeing more of these!

and last, but not least, i'm just starting a rainbow booga bag knit-along with my knitting buddies...and i'm so excited about it. i'm actually planning on adjusting the strap placement on this bag and making it into a backpack for maya. project details can be followed here. this is going to be a fun knit-along!

very special chairs...

recently i was contacted by an old friend (who was one of naomi's kindergarten teachers) and upon her learning of our relationship with our new waldorf community, she asked me if i would like some wooden folding chairs that were part of the kindergarten we had years ago - which she had been holding on to all of this time. i felt these chairs would certainly be put to good use in our new community, so i said absolutely yes! we had a wonderful visit when i went to pick them up (thank you, christy!) and i was completely taken by surprise at the emotional response i had upon seeing these chairs...

they seemed to embody the very essence of my foundation and introduction to waldorf, which happened as a result of discovering and embracing that first community so many years ago. that was the beginning for me. the beginning of my own waldorf journey, as well as my children. so much was learned sitting in these very chairs. i learned to knit, make waldorf dolls, watercolor paint, and so much more. plays were seen, book studies were attended and lectures were heard...all from these chairs.

i am honored now to take them, care for them, and pass them on to a new waldorf community who will continue to enliven and enrich many others along their own journeys, as well.
